i have a nec versapro va60h laptop which had a celeron 600 cpu, after ugrading to p3 700, my system keep running at 550 all the time (even with main power plugged in), what's wrong and is there any way to run at full speed (does 82443mx chipset support speedstep cpu or any jumper to set?)?

OK, I askedand received some more information in private messages.

So it looks like the bios supports SpeedStep, and reports 700MHz when booting on battery but when getting to Windows desptop the speed is down to 550.

So it may be problem of Windows now. To check this out, please boot from floppy to DOS and then check out the speed. You can use W. Marcus Miller's DeepSleep utility than shows the CPU speed.

in DOS with AC pluged in, W. Marcus Miller's DeepSleep utility showed speed = 550 to, so what can i do (with speedstep auto and AC pluged in, my system can't boot, speedstep auto only boot with DC, if speedstep = battery optimal or disable, boot ok)?
it seems that my system can't run over 600 (my old cpu speed) but everest shows that my mainboard support up to p3 1.13, what's wrong?

I guess you have enabled SteepStep within XP settings or by using Intel SpeedStep-utility?

neither this nor that, just enable in bios then boot to DOS, still show 550 with AC or DC!
