Phlash does not dump uncompressed BIOS

I decided to edit the BIOS on my V2000Z so that it would boot with a ralink wifi card.
I made a boot drive on my USB drive (which makes itself seen as a regular usb storage device and a floppy device)
I was able to get the compressed BIOS image and tried running phlash (1.5.0.0) with the /BU option to dump an uncompressed image of the BIOS.
After it loads the BIOS, it then goes on to verify the interface (takes about 5 minutes there) and then it goes on to say that it is backing up the BIOS ... which it didn't (sit there with that message for about half hour to an hour).
my usb drive can be written to.
I don't think that the 1.47 version of the phlash utility would be better ...
is there another way that I can uncompress the BIOS image?
I have looked around for the other BIOS tools mentioned throughout the forums but have been unable found any
