Hi,

I've inherited an Acer 1360, on which i decided to flash the bios to update it to the mose recent 1.15 version..
On re-boot i get 1 long and 2 short beeps, the screen shows nothing, however the hard disk runs, and all the LEDs that should be on are on, the fan turns, then slows down, so it seems to do all it does normally but i cant see a screen!!

Can anyone help me please, i've tried several startup options by same every time

Thanks

Those codes (on an Award bios) means that the video card is incorrectly seated or has gone bad. Also check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly. You could also try hooking it up to an external monitor.

i have the same notbook and i have had the same problem.
The 1.15 is bugged, it won't work.
you can revert back your bios with a "Boot Block".
The only thing you had to know is that there isn't a key combination to switch into this mode but you had to open the top-most part of the notebook, remove the keyboard and below there is a dipswitch, change it and turn it on with a crysis disk inside a usb floppy drive (personally i have used the v1.11 bios).
it should read the floppy for about 5 min and continue to beep until the operation is finished. turn it off, change the dip back and then turn it on again, it should work.
After that mine reports a problem with VGA so i downloaded the 1.14 from USA Acer Site, flashed it from DOS (never use windows to flash a bios if you can) and it now works flawlessly

Hope to be of assistance

Hi zananzelm,

I'm having the same problem with the same laptop.

I found the dipswitch. Now the problem is that I don't have a usb floppy drive. Is it possible to make a bootable CD? Or am I screwed? :s

Regards

I did it :)))

Well if you have Acer Aspire 1360 you need to have USB Floppy Disk Drive. Then you need to create Critical Boot Disc with one .exe file and .wph file. Everything you need is here: elektroda.pl/rtvforum/download.php?id=340546

After that, just remove notebook from power. Remove battery too. Plug in floppy and push Fn+Esc. Turn notebook to power and push power button. Just after that release Fn+Esc. Stay calm then.

-------------------------------
You must remember that this job must be doing under Boot Block changed to ON. Deepswitch is placed under the keyboard. You should place two first buttons to right side. After flashing to the left side.

I have the same problem, flash the bios with version 1.15.
But fixing the problem hasn't worked yet.

-I grabbed the rar file you mentioned and created the bootdisk, and
placed the .exe and .wph on it.
-Removed power and battery
-Switched both switches on.
-Connected USB floppy drive with bootflop
-Switched the notebook on, with fn+esc pressed

after that nothing happens.....

I'm in the same boat too, I think the bootloader part got corrupted via winflash.

Has anyone tested the NVIDIA version (that was missing from winflash you can download from acers website) with the 1.15 you can download from acers FTP ? FTP download seems to have the nvidia version too (EXTV115.WPH), atleast for dos flash.

I had the same problem with my Acer Aspire 1360 (updated bios, and machine would not boot afterwards). I spent ages trying to work out what to do, and finally managed it using the process below.

I cannot post links (you need 10 posts to be able to do this). So instructions below could be clearer.

The main help came from another thread on this forum (search for posts by overklox, the thread is "Acer Aspire 5050 BIOS recovery from a bad flash--Blind flash").

(url: http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic10069.html)

Follow the initial post, step 1 contains the link to the crisis disk. Download it.

http://rapidshare.com/files/119994408/a ... k.zip.html

Unzip this, put a floppy disk in the drive and run crisis.exe (make sure "Writing on Floppy" is selected and click OK). This creates a disk with two files on it, delete the one called BIOS.WPH

Now use Google and search for "acer aspire 1360 bios 1.14 acerpanam" (without the quotes). The first link returned is hopefully titled "Removing Bios Hardware Password and Boot Block on Acer Aspire 1360". Click this, one of the replies contains the link for version 1.14 of the bios (search the page for acerpanam). The file you need is called ERB8114W.zip.

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7 ... B8114W.zip

Unzip this, and find the file called EXTV114.WPH (look in the DOS\Discrete sub directory). Copy this file to the floppy disk and rename it to BIOS.WPH

Unplug the power lead and take out battery from laptop.

Switch both switches (1 and 2) underneath the keyboard on.

Attach USB floppy drive to the laptop, press and Hold “Fn” and “Esc” buttons together, then while holding down the buttons, plug in AC and turn on computer. You should still be holding “Fn” and “Esc”

The USB floppy drive indicator light should be lit up and assessing the crisis disk (can hear it working).

Don’t turn off the computer. This will go on for 3-5 minutes, so let it be until it stops. I left the machine alone for 10 mins. The machine should keep beeping throughout the process.

Switch the two switches under the keyboard back to off.

Reconnect battery and turn machine on.

Hope this helps.

Tony.

Hello,

I got just te same problem when updated to version 1.15. The problem was that my screen stayed blank at radom times. So i upgraded it from 1.11 to 1.15.

Now i wanted to downgrade it to 1.14 but i can't download this version because all the links are dead.

Please provide a valid link to version 1.14. Or maybe i can use 1.11 but which file i need to use than?

And is it possible to boot the wph file from a usb pen drive/stick?

Thanks!!!

edit:
Bios 1.14 was ready for a download today. I got a usb diskdrive so al works fine. Damn what a noise

No files available

Thanks for adding the links to the files go to admin, but as for QTIP (initially) I don't get to the download of BIOS v1.14. for an Acer Aspire 1363LMi.

In my case I had replaced the HD for a friend, reinstalled all software and to "finetune" I wanted to update the BIOS too (it had the original one). Stupid me! Restart gives the beep + 2x beep as mentioned above.
I'd like to try the solution as described, but can't get to the correct BIOS version for loading onto the floppy. Can somebody help me out?

gearloose> You mention an image of the bootflop, but how do I get to it?
QTIP> Where did you find BIOS v1.14 in the end?

[edit]
Couldn't find the v1.14 BIOS, but v1.11 (taken from FTP-site ftp.work.acer-euro "dot" com; sorry I'm not allowed to post links) works just fine with the instructions as described above. The only deviation was that my Acer didn't turn off after the beeping. I did so myself and continued the instructions.

Well, I have the same problem and i find solution. Try to remove one SoDIMM RAM module. My Aspire 1363LMi originally come with 512MB of RAM (2x256MB SoDIMMs). After upgrade i have 1,2 GB on board (1GB and 256MB SoDIMMs) ant doing above steps nothing happened. I spend a lot of time trying different key combinations and similar solutions like this one: forums. mydigitallife. info/showthread.php?t=2105. Finally i just removed non-original 1GB module, leaving one 256MB and voila - FDD start to read crisis disk and i repaired my Acer. Good luck.
