I believe I have that same Motherboard. Currently it will not support 48Bit LBA (over 137GB) Harddrive. Do any of those BIOSs you have linked to correct this?

Thanks

One _could_ rewrite the whole IDE detection section to support LBA48, but i doubt anyone will ever. If you are using a modern operating system like Windows XP or 2000 SP4+ or even Linux you don't need to bother about the BIOS anyways. They all use their own routines to bypass (bogus) BIOS.

Cool. I found a program from intel that allows new OSs to read the large harddrives.

Code: Select all

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=663&DwnldID=4857&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

edit: URLs don't seem to work as shown, Oh well, there it is anyway.

edit by Edwin: if you make Code out of it it will show the whole thing. phpBB cannot handle the * and % very well for some reason.

Windows XP / Windows 2k SP4 and Linux support LBA48 right out of the box for (almost, except one ALi SB) any chipset. no need for a special driver.
btw. there are drivers from almost any chipset manufacturer (i know of VIA and SIS) that support LBA48 for the old Windows distributions.
remind me of writing a sticky note so that i don't have to post it all over again ;)
