Hello there,

I got a rather odd problem. I seem to have a Matsonic motherboard, the Matsonic MS8117C, but one of the heatsinks on the mainboard is equipped with the Chaintech logo. From the looks of the mainboard, and pictures on the Matsonic site, it is this board, but the sink has me confused, since it isn't shown in the picture anywhere. Anyway, the board's giving me all sorts of trouble concerning the AGP bus, like the VIA 4in1 drivers pretty much killing the system, and if it works at all, giving poor framerates on my GeForce2MX400.

Does anybody know what type of mainboard I have, or how I can solve my current problems?

Thank you,

Martijn

If it is a Chaintech board, there should be some sort of type number printed on the board itself near the PCI slots or on a sticker on the bios chip. Please check both locations and reply with what you find there.

Matsonic used to be an exclusive PCCHIPS reseller... now perhaps they resell Chaintech too, and when hurrying deliveries, they might actually forget to change the heatsinks to those with their own logos... who knows.

It probably IS a Chaintech board, here's another confusing bios ID string from Chaintech. They really need to get their act together before I stop recommending them at all:

I know that some Matsonic boards can be found on both PC Chips and ECS pages. Some of them have also Chaintech's BIOS string and some Chaintech boards have the first two letters (2A or 6A) replaced by two letters from board model (exactly like some Matsonic boards)...
