My motherboard is labelled: MS-6534 Ver: 1

Initial Bios Boot Screen Information:

A6534MS V1.0 081401

AMI Bios String: 62-1000-001169-00101111-040201-i845-1i845000

Unfortunately, the above Bios string does not agree with the information provided on this site ( http://www.wimsbios.com/biosupdates/microstar.jsp ). Wim's information states that this string is for a MS-6566 (Microstar 845 Ultra-C) motherboard and not the MS-6534. Can anyone clarify this mismatch (Wim's error or other)?

MSI's site provides a V 1.4 Bios update for the MS-6534 board to support faster CPUs. I'm a bit concerned to proceed until the above is clarified.

TIA for any help you can provide...

62-1000-001169-00101111-040201-I845-1I845000 is used by both, AMI bioses do not store all relevant information in that string, they differ in the OEM message which is A6566MS V1.0 for the 845 Ultra-C for its version 1.0 of the bios.

The 1.40 version of your bios shows
62-1400-001169-00101111-040201-I845-1I845000
A6534IMS V1.4 050602

Which can be downloaded here:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/MS-6534.html#/?div=BIOS

Backup your original bios (standard procedure) before flashing the new. You only need to update to 1.40 the previous fixes are all in there as well.

Hi Edwin, thanks for the information. Can you clarify the "09/28/2001-I845-W627HF-6A69VM4GC" string shown on Wim's page ( http://www.wimsbios.com/biosupdates/microstar.jsp ) for the MS-6534 board? Also, I just received a response from MSI Tech Support where they state that the only way to confirm that the Bios updates at http://www.msi.com/product/mb/MS-6534.html#/?div=BIOS are appropriate for my board is if there is a label on the board with the correct part number (601-6534-010). Unfortunately, I would need to remove the board from the case to see if this label is present.

The Award bios string is for an OEM version of that board, Medion to be precise. They bought the boards from MSI but specified an Award bios as opposed to the AMI bios on a retail MSI board. There may be hardware differences as well. This is one of the things that is confusing many people sometimes, large computermakers like HP/Dell/Medion buy a load of boards from a certain model but have them modified slightly to their likings. The end-result is usually you need to use their bios instead of the retail bioses.

Edwin, again thanks for the clarification. My confusion was the result of the Wim's Bios ID page not identifying those Microstar M-6534 strings as being for Medion OEM boards. In addition, I'm in Canada and had never heard of Medion PCs.

You're welcome. This same confusion is one of the reasons wimsbios was started a long time ago I think. I'll poke a bit at Wim for including the fact some of the strings are for OEM boards.
