Asus P4B266LA. What symptoms lead you to believe you need a new BIOS?

Asus has been formatting thiers like this for awhile now. Atleast since the early Socket 7 days. My old VX97 was in the same style of format.

Most likely not because it wouldn't display the BIOS ID and hide it completely - atleast Compaq used to do it that way. Not sure about HP.
Give it a shot - its always worth atleast one. For the posters sake I hope he doesn't find one.
