IS Safe AMIBCP?

I want to extract only the bootsector from a rom image and then flash it to a Realtek 8931 netcard's rom.
Can I use the AMIBCP program to do it in a safe way?
Can this program damage the computer's cmos or bios?
In other words, this program work with the "real bios" or only alters a rom image?
I cant load the rom image in AMIBCP, I can't pass the first screen(¿?)
How do you load the rom image?
Can it be used under Windows?

Amibcp used to work in a DOS window in W2K for me, but now it hangs at the first window. I don't know what has changed but I guess I will have to boot into DOS.

It works with the BIOS file, e.g. "amibcp70 ai78.rom"
