AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2800+ running at 800 MHz on MSI KM2M?!?

Hi all,

I am trying to use an AMD Athlon XP Mobile 2800+ (Barton AXMA2800FKT4C, running at 266 MHz FSB, 2133 MHz, multiplicator 16, believe me that Barton REALLY runs at 133/266 MHz FSB) on my MSI KM2M Combo-L (MS-6738, latest BIOS version).

It does run well except it's not recognized by the BIOS (which I had kind of expected). However, unfortunately the BIOS seems to run all "unknown" processors at a 6x multiplier and thus the processor only runs at 800 MHz. The KM2M's BIOS unfortunately doesn't allow to manually change the multiplier...

Does anyone know of any way to either hack the BIOS to set the correct 16x multiplier or any Windows based software that would allow to do the same during runtime (which *should* be possible, stuff like that existed back in K6-2 times). I should add it's an Award/Phoenix 6.0 BIOS.

I found a similar tool called "Central Brain Identificator" at http://cbid.amdclub.ru/

Do you know if CPUMSR will allow to repeatedly check and modify the multiplier (say every 10 seconds or so)? Reason is, I use the CPU in a HTPC which usually goes into S3 state until there is a TV show to record. Once it's supposed to record some stuff it wakes up and starts Showshifter to do so. Unfortunately, after wake up, the CPU is back at 800 MHz. So I'd need a tool that checks repeatedly and forces the multiplier back to where it should be.

... just found such a tool by myself: It's called CrystalCPUID and can be found at http://crystalmark.info/?lang=en

It can be run from startup with command line parameters, stays in background and has got a "multiplier management" tool included which adjusts the multiplier according to current requirements. It survives S3 mode and after wake up readjusts the multiplier immediately.

I just hope this doesn't interfere with AMD's PowerNow! too much. Does PowerNow! also work by adjusting the multiplier?
