Does someone knows what code 88 could mean on a V6.00 Award BIOS ? Screen blank no other POST signs

Phoenix describes this code 88h as: Initialize bios data area (BDA). Since Award and Phoenix merged, can be Award is now using this code as well.
Someone with this same symptom (stuck in 88 on the post code detector) solved it by flashing the bios chip in an external flashing device (SPI programmer) because even the recovery option does not work. So a very corrupt bios chip or a physically damaged bios chip I think.
