i just recongnized this, when i went to my device manager to check on my hardware, but instead found that it's completely blank. i checked my plug and play and it's on automatic so i don't know what else could be causing this problem. and i cant reinstall windows xp because i dont have the disc only the recovery xp disc. so does sumbody know a alternative or a solution to this?
oh yea and too put too mind i have two video cards one built in too my p4vmm2 mainboard, and a ati radeon video card 7000 series. i had disable the plug an play driver a while back. because i got other video card installed. i put this too let you know a little bit more about my system, so that someone could help me find a salution too the blank device manager problem that still have.
I'm not sure about newer boards, but I find that with older boards that if the device manager is cleared out then to get everything redetected again you need to run the add new hardware wizard first. This will search for legacy as well as plug n play hardware. Once the basic legacy devices are found and installed, plug n play should work to redetect all of the remaining hardware devices.
If this does not work, I would be backing up and reinstalling Windows, as I have sometimes found necessary for this type of problem in the past myself.
And if that fails, there is probably some hardware problem.
