That BIOS only supports upto 8GB and can't be patched.

However I think if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP those operating systems ignore the BIOS limitation.

I could be wrong here though.

Can't I use the bios for ATC-1020+ (it has the same id string)

ftp://ftpdriver:s5dkf34jbg@ftp2.nix.ru/ ... 20p136.zip

Can this bios be patched to support 20Gb HDD?

I would be reluctant to attempt to flash the BIOS from a different model, even if similar, and would probably only risk it myself if losing the board due to a bad and unrecoverable flash was not an issue (basically if the board was otherwise beyond what I considered a usable lifespan).

At the bottom of the first screen it sais: xx/xx/xx-i430VX-2A59GA29C-00 on both moterboards.

Can the bios For ATC-1020+ be patched for 20GB?

If you have a 1020, don't try the 1020+ BIOS.

Try the ATC-1020 9/1997 release from:
http://web.tiscali.it/acorp/mobo_spec/a ... _bv1_3.htm

09/24/97-i430VX-2A59GA29C-00
ATC-1020 BIOS VER:1.3 03

According to our patchers, this BIOS DOES support HDDs upto 32GB.

Note: I have a feeling this release was directly "officialized" from a beta.

Thank's for the link.
I will try the bios soon and tell you if it works with big HDD's.

Two more things to note:

1) If your BIOS has an 8GB limiting jumper set, the full 20GB capacity of the drive will not be recognised whether or not you apply an update that allows up to 32GB. If the 8GB limiting jumper is currently set then you may have a BIOS that allows your 20GB but is currently only detecting up to 8GB because of the jumper.

2) Another good reason to avoid flashing the ATC-1020 with the ATC-1020+ BIOS: If you look through the BIOS numbers pages you will note some boards can contain different ID strings but use different BIOSs. Therefore it is probable that the BIOS for the ATC-1020 and the ATC-1020+ are different and therefore not interchangeable. If they are interchangeable, you will still likely run into unexpected problems.

AJZ: Is the ATC-1020 BIOS specialised or based on an AWARD BIOS? (similar ID format to AWARD at least). If the BIOS you are suggesting supports up to 32GB, it should be able to be patched further? (out of curiousity)

the acc version 1.3 03 does not complain when patched to 128GB. So it might be feasible.

@Ritchie, it's an ordinary AWARD BIOS. I haven't suggested patching it because it supports HDDs upto 32GB and we're talking about a 20GB HDD here.

I will look and see if there is a 8Gb limitation jumper.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi AJZ - I realised that. I was just unsure whether it was an AWARD BIOS and was therefore curious as to whether further patching was possible, should it be required. Sorry my curiousity brought this a little off topic!!!
