I built a PC from scratch and it all worked perfectly. I decided to go and upgrade all the drivers etc (as all the magazines recommend) and came across the Intel BIOS update utility. When I ran this, the machine rebooted itself and will now not go past the Intel Splash screen.

I tried to run the recovery utility as instructed. The machine spots the floppy, starts to load but then when it should be giving a couple of beeps (according to the instructions) it simply starts making a clicky noise (like a modem going off hook) and then it powers down.

Any advice from anybody would by much appreciated!

Possibly the BIOS is halting on an error and is not displaying it because of the splash screen.

Try rebooting using the BIOS setup key (probably F2 on that board) to see if you can enter the BIOS setup. If you can, my actions would then to be loading defaults, performing any customizations, disabling the splash screen (which you should also be able to do), then saving and rebooting.

Post back on how you go with this.

Or change the only jumper on the board to configure mode (if available).
