Bios - what should I disable before flash?

What and how much should be disabled in the exixting bios before an attempt to flash to a newer version is made?

I have an ABIT pr5r2 MoBo and an award modular bios v4.51pg

Turn off system BIOS caching, and disable any shadowing. That's the advice I was given.
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.
Emails *will* be ignored unless the subject line starts "Wim's BIOS forum"
