Is there an option to enable/disable BIOS updates in the CMOS setup?
Is there a jumper that does the same? (check manual)
What type of BIOS chip do you have? (look at the chip)

Flash your BIOS at your own risk.
That means, "pull back the Award sticker and tell us what writing is underneath on the chip."soupy wrote:What type of BIOS chip do you have? (look at the chip)

Well, that looks like a 12V 1Mbit flash ROM to me. The manual, as you say, does not mention any jumpers or CMOS settings to enable.
Can you get into CMOS settings ? If so, is system BIOS shadow enabled ? Try turning this off when you flash.

What happened with the PC just before the "Unknown flash type" message started appearing ?
Does the message appear every time you start the PC or when flashing ?
Does it appear before the memory count screen, on the memory count screen , or after the memory count screen ?
