The integrated sound card on my 867AS-H m/board is not functioning.
I have downloaded and installed the AC'97 Drivers from http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/download ... ndex-1.htm. (alc_sound_full.zip) from the Jetway website and they are present in device manager with no errors or conflicts, but still I have no sound, any applications that try to use it are telling me that "no audio hardware is available, or the hardware is not responding".
In Sound and multimedia properties no devices are selectable in the AUDIO or VOICE tabs yet the devices are present in the DEVICES tab.

Also I've downloaded and updated the VIA 4 in 1 driver, also from http://www.jetway.com.tw/evisn/download ... ndex-1.htm.
My next move was to update the BIOS from V.867AS-H A01 to V.867AS-H A04 07-22-2002 but still no joy.

There are other updates available from Jetway for the 867AS (no "-H") MBoard which refer to a fix for audio problems, although these boards appear to be almost identical I am not confident the upgrades are compatible, as Jetway have not replied to my email.

Can I be confident the 867AS updates are compatible and if so do you think it will solve my problem?

MBoard: 867AS-H
Chipset: VIA VT8366/VT8233 KT-266
CPU: AMD Athlon 800MHz
SDRAM: PC100 128MB
VGA: NVIDA RIVA TNT 64/64pro (AGP)
Modem: PCtel HSP56 MicroModem
HDD: Fujitsu 30GB
OS: Windows ME

I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks

Seems you got the wrong driver - deinstall the ALC driver .
Other possibilities are VIA integrated Audio or CMedia 8738
Latest VIA driver is 3.20b and latest 8738 is 6.41
Seems this Board came in two flavours - one with AC97 Audio (the Realtek ALC chipor VIA ) and another one with Hardware Audio - CMedia

Hi Denniss

Thanks for your reply.

I've taken the computer to work but am off today so I can't look at the board, but I do remember seeing a realtek chip near the port end of the AGP slot and the manual says there is an AC'97 2.1 CODEC on board.

So with the information you have given me I have downloaded the latest drivers from:
VIA: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=69 (ComboAudio_a1u320b.zip)
CMEDIA: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_download_01.htm (CMI8738_WDM_0639ME.zip) could'nt find version 6.41
Realtek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dow ... tware=True (wdm_a332.exe)

Hope they are the correct ones this time.

I will try these as soon as possible and let you know how I get on.
Thanks again for your help(much needed).

Well I've Tried all the drivers and still no sound :(

There is an ALC201A chip on the board so I tried the latest driver for it from Avance logic (now realtek)ver: 3.35 (no good).

Do you think the BIOS update for the 867AS is worth a try or is it too risky?

Then the Realtek driver should work - any error messages from the driver or its utilities ?
Is Sound really enabled in Bios ?
Tried to reinstall DirectX ?

When I install the drivers there are no errors during setup windows ME re-boots picks up the drivers and updates system setup, then Sound Manager (util) appears in the taskbar, although if I try to open it…nothing happens but still no errors or exceptions.
In Device manager there are no exclamation marks, question marks or conflicts anywhere, it’s got an IRQ (05) and an input/output range (E400-E4FF)

When I try to use any application that requires audio they still tell me I have no device, it’s not functioning or the drivers are not installed.

The AC’97 is enabled (AUTO out of auto/disabled) in bios and I’ve also upgraded Directx to version 8.1b

Going grey... :?
