I have looked at the lucky-star site but i do not know how to select my bios bin file.
My motherboard user guide states that the bios support up to 8.4GB only, I did not check it .
It is strange that my motherboard manual and box state "lucky-star" brand and the bios number and several diagnostics programs claims it is KAIMEI/JAMICON brand.
Maybe a wrong motherboard in your box and someone got a Lucky-Star mainboard in a Jamicon box .
Please check the sirface of your board for any markings - maybe KM646B .
Please post the Bios OEM message - should be on the same screen as your Bios-ID in the top left corner just below the Award Logo .
Bios detection program should display it too .
Maybe it looks like Release 19980804
Dennis is right. Many vendors accidentally mix up boxes and boards.
BTW, I have an official BIOS release:
09/11/1998-i440BX-W977TF-2A69KK1AC-00
Release 19980911-0
Nice board, but pity it won't support Celerons nor Pentium IIIs. I've had one a few months ago and tested it fully. No ACPI support either. It'll support all PIIs from 233 to 450, but nothing else.
BTW, fastfame.com.tw took over Jamicon/Kaimei's mobo business. In fact, they provided me with this latest official BIOS release, developed by Jamicon. Fastfame took over when Jamicon was still manufacturing a more recent model, the 650BX, which Fastfame is still offering the BIOS update for, in their download section, and respecting Jamicon's board-naming system.
Hi,
On the board I have only found P6BX2.
I could not find a release Nu.
On the bios chip i have :s/n 133418561 1998
PCI/PNP 686
It seems that my board is Kiami.
I will check again if it will recognize my HD.
What Flash ROM chip do you have - 128KB or 256KB - if you don't know, post what's printed on it (under any stickers like Award).
The patched 128KB BIOS (up to 64GB) is available at http://wims.rainbow-software.org/, I have this 256KB BIOS:
12/28/1999-I440BX-W977EF-2A69KSHEC-00
Intel 440BX Chipset BX2 Rev:E
Hi,
I am amazed !!! YES This is my board !!!
So if I got it right, The board is Lucky-tech and the bios is Kiamei ?
I bought this board brand new !!! How can that happen?
The numbers under the Award sticker (on the bios chip) are:
winbond W29501A-15
722IH26452830911UG
Shouldn't that be Winbond W29EE011 or W29C010 If yes, it's 128KB chip and you can use patched BIOS from http://wims.rainbow-software.org/. It should work with HDDs up to 64GB (we can patch it up to 128GB if you have bigger drive).
You are right again the label is Winbond W29C010.
The 30GB hard drive is working even without the bios upgrade.
I will upgrade the bios in the evening.
I still do not understand how everything is working when the bios is not the right one.
Thanks for solving my mysteries & educating me !!!
