PIII 600MHZ
256MB RAM . OK
AB-BH6 Motherboard w/bh6ss.exe bios update.
120GB DESKSTAR IBM DRIVE

I have spent about 7 hours trying to trouble shoot my little server problem. I have learned that AB-BH6 boards will not support this size of drive even with latest bios update. This leaves me only one option, Disk Manager. <sigh>

I have configured my drive exactly as mentioned on ibm tech site.
http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/bios338gb1.htm
However, after following these steps i get the drive to 120GB however I am introduced to a menu asking me to boot from a: or cdrom for os loading. At this point I have selected cdrom to boot from my win2000pro cd. I am unable to continue further and system seems to hang. I am unsure how to continue with this drive and I am very frustrated, any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, that BH6SS.exe version appears to have the HDD 32GB and 64GB bugs removed, so it's not that problem - the BIOS should support up to 128 GiB.

The bios definately does not detect drives over 32GB. I have flashed ab-bh6 v1 board w/ss bios update however the largest drive they indicate tested was less than 40GB. I know at this point I am left with using an overlay software system. IBM's Disk Manager is crap and I have had success with seagate's system before. I will give a heads up tomorrow if things workout.

Thanks, I have managed to get my server up with my 120G Hard Drive. I had to use the drive overlay system provided by seagate on my drive to get it to work properly. Odd since I tried using disk manager from IBM and it didnt work at all. However luckly, I tried seagates version and I'm up and running. Thanks, AstroBoy

Release notes for an older Bios said Bios updated to support 40GB HDD and more - Bios patch utility said full support up to 128GB .
So problem is not the Bios - it was somewhere in your configuration .
Maybe 32GB clib activated ?
