hello again
i am working on my brothers computer
has ami bios 51-0000-001396-00111111-101094-intel-fx-f at bottom of post screen
top left corner has v1.01 9704 build date19960723210001
the problem is it will not detect cd rom drive
have tried with jumpers in master/slave and also cable select
still no cd rom
does anyone know what i need to do to fix this problem or just junk the board and start fresh

It's possible that the BIOS do not support CD-ROMs. The CD-ROM should work fine in Windows.

Then you have problem with the CD-ROM or cable.

i have tried four different cd rom drives and different cables
all of the cd roms will work in another computer that i have
any suggestions

Do you see the Dual IDE controller with Primary and Secondary channels in Windows Device Manager?

Are you setting the jumpers on the HD as well, if you are slaving to it?
Please be more specific about how you are connecting it (Master/Slave or on the Second IDE Channel, Master/Slave as well).
Also what type of CDROM, and is it IDE capable, or a proprietary interface (which will mate to a standard cable)?
