Board Rev# is my issue...

Hi - I have what I am pretty sure is an ECS-K7VZA board, and I am trying to update the Bios. The issues here are:

1 - I don't know what rev the board is, the ECS site has 2 diff bios files for the "1.0" rev, and the "3.0" rev.

2 - The manuals for both the revs indicate that there are 3 DIMM slots on this board, but mine only has 2. So, the next question that comes up to me is, "is this even the board I think it is?"

The Rastr Bios Wizard report I got says (I only included the stuff I thought was pertinent)

Looks like PC Chips/Amptron M807/ECS K7VZA - all the same board. The 3rd DIMM slot seems to be optional.

As you can see, v3.0 has dark PCB color.

If it is a rev 3.0 it should be marked as such, else you have a rev 1.0

New problem now, though. The BIN file from ECS for K7VZA rev 1 and rev 3 both tell me the part number doesnt match the file. Would you suggest that I try bn files from AMptron or PC Chips?

Try the PC Chips M807 bios.

OK, I am hoping this isn't premature, as the machine has not been used in the office on a daily basis as of yet, but it seems to have worked.

I was having startup, shutdown, hard drive, and freezing problems. The new BIOS seems to have resolved all of them, and the only one that I have now is that if I keep "CDROM" in the boot order, the machine will hang while searching for the boot record on CDROM drive. I have a feeling I could remedy that if I kept trying to track it down, but seeing that I am responsible for maintaining a total of 12 machines, and a good portion of them need "cleaning up", on top of a whole bunch of other duties, I just took "CDROM" out of the boot order for now. It could be the drive, for all I know, and I can live without being able to boot from it.

Thanks a million for your postings, they have been an incredible help to me.

I am going to try to find a post that someone has posted that I can answer now. It is the only way I can think of to try to give back. Thanks again.
