Hi,

This BIOS suffers from the usual award problem with recognising anything over 32gb. :x

I have tried to change the drive table myself using MODBIN, however when I try and manually enter the text, it automatically reverts back to 32767 cylinders. :(

Can anyone either point me in the right direction to get an already threaded bios, or explain to me where I am going wrong?

Many thanks in advance

Gareth

Hi Gazza
That's an ECS P6BAT-Me, V1.1, see http://www.ecs.com.tw. I expect the additional data we ask you to post (see posting guidelines) wouold have helped with that, but I found it through Google.

First, as CHS (Cylinder/Head/Sector) addressing is limited to 4.3GB, it's not going to help. You need to be using LBA (Logical Block Addressing) and to do this set the drive type and translation mode to Auto/LBA or Auto/Auto.

Second, it's likely that this BIOS suffers from the well-known 32GB Award BIOS Bug. A later BIOS can be found at http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/dw_spec. ... uct_id=114 which may fix the problem. If it doesn't (I can't check right now as I'm not on my machine), we can patch it or you can try patching it yourself using apple_rom's "bp" from www.rom.by
