NEC Ready 9930 AMI / A6156P5 V2.4
or
NEC PowerMate VT 300 AMI / A6156P5 v2.4 050399

Possibly an oem MSI (Microstar) MS-6156

If only 32GB are recognized try to remove the 32GB limitation clip

If Bios hangs while detection try these things :

1) try to use IDE HDD Autodetect
2) set the IDE-Port with your big HDD to autodetect ( will try to detect HDD each time you boot)
3) Enter the Cylinder/Head/sector values manually in your Bios and activate LBA

If all these things fail then try to get an updated Bios from NEC

As latest possibility try a standard MSI Bios - WARNING !! :
1)It's possible NEC changed some things and MSI standard Bios does not work
2) MSI has a 6156ZX and a 6156BX to choose from - make sure you get the correct bios !

I got a call from eSupport and I was told that my BIOS is an MS6156 and it cost $60 to upgrade.
I'm thinking of just buying an EIDE card to support 80gb HDD instead of chipping $60 for the risky BIOS upgrade. It has lots of other features though but just getting the 80gb would be enough for me.

Thanks a lot to you all guys. This is a good and helpful newsgroup.
Keep it up.

It is a 6156 but there are three version of your Board existing - one with VIa chipset(6156VA) and two with Intel chipset(6156ZX and 6156BX) using Itel i440ZX or i440BX chipset so an upgrade from Esuuport may not work

Both standard MSI Bios support HDD up to 128GB according to their website
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... =MS-6156BX
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... =MS-6156ZX

Have you tried to find an updated Bios from NEC ?

Have you tried the three suggestion I gave in my previous post ?

I just read your suggestions this morning - I'll try it tonight.
I already asked NEC about it and they referred me to PriorityOneSupport.com which then referred to me to eSupport.com. In other words, NEC wont support my old BIOS any longer.
My board uses Intel Chipset 440BX. I checked the link you sent and it has downloadable upgrade for BIOS. Do you think my board would work with the upgrade for MS-6156BX?

Thanks again.

BIOS Type AMI® BIOS
File Size 207KB
Version 1.0
Update date 1999-11-21
Update Description This is the initial AMI(R) BIOS release.
Special note This bios is only for BX chipset board.

Do you think this upgrade from the link you sent would work with my NEC having Intel440BX Chipset, AMI Bios, and a motherboard of MS6156?

Thanks.

The MSI AMI Bios should be older than yours - MSI standard Bios for your Board is Award
It's a little risky to flash the Award Bios but it should work on your Board but you must be sure whether your chipset is 440BX or 440ZX (printed onto your chipset)

What's your NEC PC model number ?
Maybe there's a newer Bios at NEC but not easy to find ...

Full info on the updated bios:
61-1108-001169-00101111-071595-440BX/ZX
A6156P5 V3.3 110899
Packard Bell and NEC both use this board in several different systems. Packard Bell uses a Phoenix bios, NEC uses an AMI bios.

Is there any info I could read that the "911mb-33.exe" would work with A6156P5 V3.3 110899 61-1108-001169-xxxxxxxx-071595-440BX/ZX-1440B000

I'm pretty close of applying this update to my NEC GT250 but just need one final info or assurance, you know to make sure it would work - I was told not to assume anyway.
Coz if this messes up my PC then I might need to produce enough $$$ for a new mboard (or better yet buy a new PC).

Thanks for all the help!!
