I have a 40GB HD and am planning to buy 80GB in the near future. I'd like to find the right flash file/patched .bin file for my bios. This is my first time and am concerned of all the warnings about flashing  ... with your help perhaps I can better my odds at success. The details are:

Bios ID : 19981010C
Bios Date : 10/08/98
Bios Type : Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
Bios ID/Signon : 10/08/1998-i440BX-19981010C-00
Bios Eval/Release: Release 10/10/'98
Chipset : Intel 440BX/ZX rev 3
Super I/O : Winbond 977TF rev 0 found at port 3F0h
Super I/O Chip : Winbond 83977TF found at port 3F0h

I can't find any model number so far in my motherboard except that it says in the manual "650B / 670V Main board" (could this be a Jamicon board?)

Other details which I don't understand but which may be useful to you are:

Looks like Jamicon/Kaimei 650B. Is the BIOS chip 128KB or 256KB? (peel off the Award sticker from it and see what's printed on the chip)

That is the 1Mbit version for which a patched bios is available at http://http://wims.rainbow-software.org

hi.. i checked the site but just want to be sure that I have the right file. Is it the "Jamicon 650B 1Mbit.zip" file?

http://wims.rainbow-software.org/edwin/ ... 01Mbit.zip

And with my kind of flash chip, do i have to set the cmos program jumper to 12v??

thanks as always....

After a few tense moments...

The suggested Jamicon patch works. My system now recognizes the 40GB... I'm now loading the OS.

Thank you.... you just saved me from a new motherboard.

Trivia: Did you know that where I live, the cost of a motherboard is about one month's salary for most of us.... I'm grateful...
