256 meg only recognised as 128meg

I have a Award Modular bios V4.51pG and chipset is SIS530. I recently purchased 256m ram and after puting it in it only comes up as 128m. 256 is single sided with 8 chips. can anyone assist me with this problem 8O Will a bios upgrade assist Oh by the way running windows ME (or is this the problem

Wrong kind of chip. You'll need the double-sided kind.
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.
