I have the following information on my board:
Award ID-String : 04/21/1999-i440BX-W977TF-P6BX-AP
Board/BIOS-Version : P6BX-A+ Ver 3.3f 07/27/1999
OEM : ??
Chipset : i440BX

I just purchased a new 40GB HardDrive and it is not recognized. Googling, I found the following page that leads me to believe that my board is made by EliteGroup (e.g. see the following link)

I could not find an exact match when searching using
04/21/1999-i440BX-W977TF-P6BX-AP

but I did find a match when I search for
i440BX-W977TF-P6BX-AP

I am not convinced that it is an EliteGroup board. Nor am I sure what do do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's ECS P6BX-A+ board. You have v3.3f BIOS - that means you should have 256KB Flash ROM chip, so you can use BIOS v5.6 http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/p6bxap1x.htm.
