Have an Iwill BD100+ MB and new WD 80G drive... Latest Bios from Iwill's site is 12/12/00... They quit updating the Award Bios after that. The BIOS won't recognize the HD...locks during auto-detect... Can skirt around it by jumpering the HD, but the stupid overlay loads after setting up the drive.... I can remove the overlay using the drive utilities, but I'm afraid that will cause issues. Here's the full scoop on the BIOS.... (O/S is 98SE)... Any ideas?

It's a tricky one....our normal patcher does not like it.

However, the BIOS does not seem to be the real issue; bp does not find any bugs.

I'll pull the HD and try the default jumper setting again... Always a chance I didn't have it jumpered properly when I originally tried to install it. The jumper workaround WD uses forces the drive to report itself as a 32 Gig drive to fool the BIOS into accepting it. It may well be that's why the drive is still working without the overlay.... Without the overlay, both Win 98 and DOS have no problems/corruption issues with more than 32 Gigs of data loaded on the drive.

Thanks,

John

Just for information... There is already v4.23 available from bp.

Tried the HD again, this time with the jumper removed, and the BIOS recognized the entire 80 Gigs... Believe I had it jumpered wrong when I originally tried it out...... So chalk it up to Basic Operator Error on my part. I'm also fairly impressed that a four year old MB supports a larger drive... The first HD I ever tried with it was only 5 Gigs, so I've come a long way...

Thanks for your research--gave me the confidence to try again.... Certainly is better than running with the overlay...

John
