Is there a free bios update image out there on the Net? It seems that award has farmed their support out (at a COST) to some 3rd party service. What if you just want to dl the thing and flash it yourself for free?

Is this wish a vain one - or can it still be done?

Windows XP gives me an exception when I try to install it on this PC - I was thinking maybe a BIOS upgrade would be a step in the right direction.

exception errors are usually a sign of a bad stick of memory. Check the top surface for the actual model number, several FIC boards use this string. PA-xxxx or VA-xxx

It's FIC board, most probably VA-503+. Check what's printed on it.

I downloaded the one for the 1.1* motherboard (which was printed on mine - rather than the 1.2) and it allowed me to get past that point in WinXP install...I think I'm ok now. Must be a 503+

Thanks!
