memory should be 16x8 type, not 32x4 type. Check the specs on the memory stick.

Edwin - Shouldn't the memory be a different organisation for a 256MB module? I think 16 X 8 and 32 X 4 both give a 128MB chip.

No, they give a 128Mb chip. You need 16 to make 256MB either way. However, the 32Mx4 chips need the memory controller to address/refresh the 32M addresses on each chip; and if the memory controller can only access 16M addresses you'll only see half the RAM. All 16 "x4" chips are needed to get your 64-bit data word, so although it may look double-sided physically you'll actually be addressing chips on both sides with every full-word access, so it's logically "single-sided".
