1st i must say what an informative forum, a few days ago i purchased a new HD (maxtor 160GB)

my mthbd is tacoma (packard bell yuk)
MSI 6119 V1.1 BX2

system = platinum 2400
P2 450MHz

original amibios bios was:
61-1026-001169-00111111-071595-440BX

after reading this forum for a while i cross flashed from ami award as msi website bios desription says > 64GB

after cross flashing to award bios latest version 2.9 the bios still only sees 32GB

im in the process of reading trying etc but if someone can help get there quicker, the more i read the more i realise i need better hardware

im kinda guessing i need a new mthbrd etc is there a patched bios to overcome the 32GB limit

Remove the 32GB limitation jumper from your HDD - either you'll see 128/137GB or your Bios hangs and will need patching .
More than 128/137GB is not possible with your Board - consider to buy an Add-in PCI UDMA Controller

ive corrupted the bios now , i read on maxtor site about award 4.15 being incompateble with >32GB and after trying to use maxtor overlay program without success, so i thought flash bios back to original ,however when i used the OEM bios flashdisk from packard bell i got rom error and now when power is applied the cpu/psu fan run, cd light glows for a few secs and thats it.

i did remove the 32GB limit jumper on the HDD

how hard is an eeprom programmer to build? is there sw support for home made programmers, just a thought as i work in electronics

please give us your thoughts, btw, tried resetting the bios, by clearing the cmos ( 0V )

An EPROM programmer is not difficult to build, just a pain if you hand-wire it. There are kits available, though not many in the UK. A Google search for "eprom programmer schematic" turns up a number of sites with circuit diagrams, some with bits for sale. The other option is "hot-swap" flashing in another motherboard - see the thread in "Collected Wisdom".

i dont think its worth the bother for one IC, going to try eprom programmer at uni, lecturer said i can give it a go tommorow
