I can't find a BIOS for GA-586ATS on the Gigabyte website. I can find 1.32 at www.zdnet.de; I'll take a look at that.

OK, a version of 1.32 patched for HDD up to 64GiB is at the "untested" link in my signature. Please let us know whether it works so we can make available for others. Remember that if you aren't using 1.32 at the moment it's wise to clear the CMOS while/after flashing. If the BIOS reports your drive as faster than UDMA Mode 2 (ATA-33) you may have to use the Maxtor utilities to change the mode of your drive. Good luck!

It's only for internal use .

Please report problems you may find (hopefully not) with your patched Bios !

Only odd thing is the ESCD update function seems to be replaced by "unknown bios" text.
Ok now I've discovered the problem:

I have the version 4.50pg not 4.51pg of award modular bios.

glad I didn't loose this bios backup

Try clearing CMOS. This might help.

Clear the CMOS
I used UNIFLASH to clear CMOS before flashing. :)
Always I do turn power off for 20 seconds then boot. 8)
putting a 4.51PG bios image over 4.50PG usually does the problem for me.

It appears that the official patch is in fact the upgradeto 4.51 over 4.50
I beleive 4.50 is the version my mobo recognises.
Is it possible to manipulate the v4.51pg to say 4.50 without downgrading to it?

4.50 to 4.51 is/was a common Update in this period of time and is required for HDD support over 8GB

True. I've had several 4.50PG BIOS-based boards that simply flashed to their newer 4.51PG releases flawlessly.

well, I guess since it works that there isnt any real prob; Ijust hope the "Bios Unknown" message also means no ESCD.
Anyhow, thx people this mobo now gives a disabled child a computer to learn and communicate with. :?
