80GB: ms-6121

i have just installed a 80gig hitachi deskstar harddrive in my p.c. my motherboard is a ms-6121 with a 350 pentium2. the bios just hangs when it tries to detect it. i have updated the bios to the latest version.it works fine when jumpers are set so it is detected as a 32 gig. is there anything i can do to change it. i have tried to find a patch for the bios , but i cant find one
