Wasn't sure where to post this so here it is!

I have a problem with my computer, it won't shut down once I have been connected to the net (ADSL). If i turn it on without the modem on, however, it shuts down fine. Someone told me to disable the network card in BIOS under intergrated peripherals which led me here......

I know how to get into BIOS and there is a heading called peripherals, but i can't tell which is my network card, and i don't want to disable something i shouldn't! There is only 5 things n there so I was hoping someone coudl tell me how to find out which is the network card?

Thanks

Hi there!

I have no idea about this sort of stuff, but I looked on the receipt and the motherboard is called "Intel PIV 3.0GH 800FSB Hyper Thread". It doesn't say what the network card is called. I can post the five or so things it says in the BIOS if u like maybe u can tell from them?

Thanks so much,

Didn't they give you the motherboard manual with your system?

No they didn't.........I used to have a Soltek mainboard, I had the manual for that, I recently got it upgraded to a pentium 4 and new motherbard, but got no manual with it.

Will just shut down the puter and get those things from peripherals and post back here.

OK here goes, hope this makes sense to someone :D

Also forgot to mention the guy said the reason it won't shut down is a prob with the network card, this computer is not networked but has a card so I just want to disable it and still be able to get on the net.

In the BIOS it has a menu "Peripheral Configuration" it has:

Serial Port A [Auto]
Parralel Port [Auto]
Mode [Bi-Directional]

Audio [Enabled]
Onboard LAN [Enabled]
ASF Support [Enabled]

Are any of these the network card?

I also noted under the "boot" menu, that "PXE Boot to LAN" is disabled, would this mean anything?

If it's an ADSL USB modem, I'd consider looking for driver updates...

Thanks....yes it is an adsl modem, i just found a driver update and installed it but still not shutting down properly.

All it does it dumps to a blanks screen and i have to press restart and then the power button to switch it off....which is making it run scandisk everytime for "improper shutdown".

Thanks for your help, i may have to take it to a shop to get fixed I think.
