I'm currently working on a friend's computer, and it's having problems with the HDD. When I try to format it, it formats fine, and then when I reboot, it doesn't recognize it as a system disk. If I boot off a floppy, it says that the HDD is only 32k. Also, if I format the disk on another system, it works just fine, and runs good, but then when I reinstall it in that system, it does the same thing. And then if I put it back in the other system, it no longer recognizes it, so I have to start all over. Is this a bios problem perhaps? Or is the motherboard shot? Any help would be appreciated.

--EDIT--
Also, I've tried using a smaller 4GB HDD, and it does the exact same thing, so I don't believe it's a disk size problem...

This may seem a stupid question, but you have run the HDD autodetect feature in your BIOS?

Also, does the system keep this setting, or sometimes lose it and send it back to some default setting. If it loses the setting, does it seem to do it at random or when some specific event occurs?
