This is the problem, my 80GB Hitachi Deskstar Hd is not being recognised unless I put the 32Gb clip on, then the pc hangs on the config page while trying to read the size?

Looks like it's an Asus P2B motherboard... Asus BIOS is a non-standard layout, so apple_rom's "bp" patcher is the best option. Find a patched version at the "untested" link in my signature in a few minutes....

..OK, more than a few. I apologise. Sometimes work gets in the way.
Look for (Asus P2B bp).zip
Note that you will need to flash "with bootblock" according to the bp patcher.

The Asus Beta BIOS 1014_3.zip for the P2B with hardware monitoring (at the link Janpopan posted) has support for large HDDs.

The patched version of 1012 that I posted will be removed.

I have now downloaded the zip files from your suggested sites and will try to replace the bios tomorrow morning. That's if I do not have a headache from the birthday celebrations tonight!

Hey people guess what???

Yup got a problem, not sure if the flash util is incorrect but everytime I got to put one of the updates in it goes to an error:
ERROR --- incorrect file press exit to return to main menu.

I'm using the ASUS AFlash 2.21 Util from their website??????

Suggestions please!

Copy 1013-5.EXE to C:\
Insert a blank diskette to A:
Start, Run, type CMD, prompt to C:
Type 1013-5 /s A:
After the bios file has been copied, restart the machine to flash from the floppy disk and choose the bios you want in the
menu. When choosing the bios, please note the following:

IDE: standard BIOS: for only IDE or IDE + SCSI drives and standard
floppy in the PC

SCS: for only SCSI drives and standard floppy in the PC

LSZ: for LS120 or ZIP drive without standard floppy in the PC

The machine will reboot after the bios flash has been completed. Please
remove the floppy disc from your drive.
A CMOS checksum error message will appear; approve a BIOS Default
loading by pressing F1.
