Hello all :-)

I've a WDC WD2000BB HHD with 200GB and my BIOS will not work with it. I flashed the latest BIOS-Update GA-6BXC-F4c, but nothing gets better :-(

Here are some data:

Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.2
BIOS Date: 07/06/00
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
BIOS ID: 07/06/2000-i440BX-8671-2A69KG0DC
OEM Sign-On: Intel 440BX/ZX AGPSet BIOS for 6BXC V.F3
Chipset: Intel 440BX/ZX rev 2
Superio: Unknown
OS: WinXP
CPU: Pentium II 350 Mhz MAX: 400 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
Memory Installed: 256 MB
Memory Maximum: 96 MB
Memory Slot 01: 0 MB
Memory Slot 02: 128 MB
Memory Slot 03: 128 MB

If it is possible to get more than the max HDD size of 128GB ?

I get the "Data Lifeguard Tools 11 für Windows" from Western Digital Internet-Site, but it will erase the data on the HDD. That was very unfortunately because on the HDD is more than 70GB mp3-files (I didn't wan't to lose them).

I can put the HDD in an external case and connect to my machine via USB, but it's too slowly. I wan't to have a great internal HDD.

Is anybody here who can help me?

Thanks

Markus

You need the F4c Bios to get it recognized as 128/137GB HDD - without this version the Bios might hang at detection or shows wrong size.
If your HDD is not detected at all check cables and jumpers - it may need to be jumpered as Single-Master. Does it work if jumpered to 32Gb Limitation ?
Your Board/Bios supports HDD up to 128/137GB - all above has to be supported by OS (W2K/SP4, XP/SP1, Linux and others)

Dear Denniss,

thx for your reply

I have the F4c Bios and the description says that only HDD up to 75GB will be supported.

All cables and jumpers are checked, believe me :-) If in CMOS the HDD-detection is on the machine hang up. If I only make the detection for the 200GB HDD off (on secondary master), the machine will be boot. The WD-Tool-Program I before mentioned detect the HDD although the entry in CMOS is off. So HDD is there, but it doesn't work with my BIOS.

That's I now also find out. My OS (XP/SP2) ist ready for big HDD, but what will I do if OS can't start because BIOS hang up.

Is it really the only possibility to put in an IDE-Controller like Ultra100 ?

Best regards

Did you run the Bios Agent with the old Bios or was the F4c Bios installed ?
-> Info says F3 Bios installed

This Bios is verified to support HDD up to 120GB - a bigger HDD should be reported as 128 or 137GB.

Have you cleared CMOS after flashing ?
-> Might be required
