Can Award provide an update for the MEC Abit PH5 computer I have .
I would love to have this computer going .
I've been told on this Forum the only suitable update for the bios is the ph5-e0.bin which is intended for the Abit PH5 v1.3 motherboard .
The problem is the manufacturer MEC does not provide support for the PH50705C , which is MEC's manufacturers name for the board .
The PH50705C v1.4 motherboard I have is almost identical to the Abit PH5 v1.3 which is the only nearest version I can find a Bios for to this time .
There are 4 differences I have noticed between the PH5 v1.3 and the PH50705C v1.4 .
1 : the v1.4 has a , I think it is a Real Timer , is that correct ? it is an Aluminium heatsink appearing fixture that has fan shaped ends about 25mm high and 70mm long and 25mm wide near the corner where the battery is parallel to the CPU and fan .
2 : the 1.3 version has a JP Number 29 where the PH50705C v1.4 has a JP 27 , but it appears in the position and seems to be the same horse , you know .... it appears to have the same function ( first time I've written this ! )
3 : the v1.3 has a 12 but v1.4 does not have a J12 .
4 : in the manual for the PH5 v1.3 the long chip at the end of the bios chip , about the same size as the bios chip , has KBD written on it in the manual but the PH50705C v1.4 has a VIA 82C42N Chipset .
... my inexperience thinks that VIA chip is a graphics chip , I'm not sure .
I haven't finished my homework .

The other chips on the PH50705C v1.4 are labeled :
MX8325MC - MCZC80521
SiS 5511 (5511B in the Bios) , 5512 , 5513 .

If it comes to it I am prepared to submit a request to Award/Phoenix for a Bios Upgrade and pay for it but I'm not sure if they are going to be able to appreciate the chipsets could be different on the MEC Abit PH5 v1.4 and the Abit PH5 v1.3 .
I don't see anything in common between the KBD chipset and the VIA 82C42N chipset .
What do you think I should do ?

You have a lot of posts going for this board.

Exactly what do want the BIOS upgrade to perform for you, so we can tell you if it is possible?

Thanks. :)
