I have an old machine which I'm trying to install a Maxtor Diamondmax 9 in. It's an 80gb drive, but it only shows up as 32gb because of the old BIOS.
I set the BIOS on to large, but this causes the machine to fail to even get past CPU/RAM detection, requiring the CMOS state to be cleared.
I've looked for a newer BIOS but I can't find one. I've been to other forums and I have been pointed here.
PC details:
Operating System System Model
Windows XP Professional (build 2600) VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C597
Processor a Main Circuit Board b
350 megahertz AMD K6-2 w/3DNow!
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: VP3-586B-W877 (string)
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 4.51 PG 03/04/99
Thanks
80GB Maxtor Diamondmax 9
This is the hard bit. I've only found three matching boards:
Achitec ACHI-156 12/10/97-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LEAX9C-00
Full Yes FYI-VT598 02/04/1999-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LEF3FC-00
Tatung T3156 09/13/1999-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LET7AC-00
All take Pentium processors, not AMD, although the board images match mine, obviously.
There's no clue on the actual board (I've checked and checked).
I'm not sure what I ought to do next really.
Information on the chip (probably not any use):

Sorry and thanks.

Please post YOUR Bios-ID not of other partially matching boards/strings !!
Without this Info and maybe the model number printed onto your board a 100% positive board-ID is not possible and finding a new Bios or patching a suitable Bios is not possible, too ,without risk of damaging something.
These boards shoudl eat all socket-5 or Socket-7 compatible CPU as long as it supports adequate voltages.

I do still not see your Bios-ID ?
To be sure this is your board you should post your full string as seen on boot-up ! You only posted full Bios-ID from these other boards but why not from your board ?

Is that the little black jumper attached a single pin (which I can't get off)?
Edit: It's actually moulded into the drive design, so that can't be it.
I've taken all the jumpers off which is just slave mode, and it works now!
Thanks guys! =)
