A couple of years back a Slot 1 board went into bootblock for no apparent reason. We reflashed the board from bootblock and then it worked fine up until last year when it failed completely.

Now a different board has also went into bootblock, again for no apparent reason. The question is: "Based on the past experience, is it worth recovering the BIOS or is this board also dyeing?"

The only thing I suggested to the owner of the board was to setup the hard disk from the system as a secondary in another system, and give it a thorough scan for viruses. If a virus is found then this may have infected the BIOS and from that point of view the BIOS is probably worth recovering. If the hard disk is clean it would seem to the board is just failing of it's own accord.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Sometimes, static electricity can be quite nasty... I've seen this happen on some boards... And the problem used to be somewhat faulty PSUs...

Does this mean that if we recover the BIOS from bootblock and set the board up with a better power supply that we should be OK?

Not failproof but worth a try.
