I have a IPAQ Desktop (No it's not a PDA).
There must be a HDD limit in the bios.
I can only use 13.3GB of 40GB

And i have the latest BIOS 2.10 from Compaq.

Is there any alternative BIOS?

13.3GB does not sound like any BIOS limit that I know of. What OS are you using? Have you tried FDISK to see whether it's a partitioning issue?
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

OS is W2k + SP4
Yes, i have tried FDISK and PQ Magic with the same result.

I can only see 13.3GB in BIOS as well

If i put the drive in a another PC I can use 40GB...
When it is put back in the IPAQ its only 13.3GB.

How did this problem start to arise ?

New Bios flashed and 27 GB of your HDD disappeared ?
New HDD connected and only 13 GB available ?

Have you tried to Clear CMOS, then load Optimal settings or Setup Defaults and try again ?

If this HDD was partitioned in another computer then there may well be a translation error, remove all partitions and use your computer to partition it (all data will be lost though).

HDD was formated om another PC but is reformated on the IPAQ with the same result... only 13.3GB

It may.

The Compaq Support Manual/Technical Reference Guide for this unit only mentions up to 10 GB HDD's... :(

Is it possible it's a BIOS limit or is it a hardware limit?
810E should be able to handle up to 40GB.... Correct me if im wrong.

Is there a "Bios guru" who can hack it?

I have a Compaq Ipaq (no floppy or CDrom installed) .

I have installed a 40GB HD in this with no problem to replace the 4GB Harddrive that was originaly in the machine. But due to not having a floppy or Cdrom on the unit had to ghost the drive to a larger drive.

But this at least proves it should be possible for you to use bigger drive.
Will see what bios version my machine is running.

OK! So it is possible :D

Well, my machine was delivered without any HDD.
But the original HDD was 4-8.4GB

BIOS i got is
V2.10 (686J5 ROM)

Maybe you can make a BIOS dump and send to me... if its the same ROM (686J5)?
