my seagate 250gb hd barracuda 7200.8 is not being recognized up by my msi 865g neo2-p motherboard. may someone please help me? thanx.

have you inspected your cables? What is your bios id string? (use this to find it http://www.unicore.com/biosagent/index.cfm).

Your Board and Bios should be well recent enough to detect big capacity HDD.
As suggested before check your cables and give us some more infos:
PATA or SATA ? Detected by Bios bot not visible in OS device manager ?

i finally had time to do the bios thingy...i dorm so i normally use my laptop and my home computer is the one that needs the help. here is the info i got

the cables look fine to me. it's a SATA hd and it should work. i didn't see it being detected when i looked in the bios menus before startup so i really don't know what's going on.

Are you checked the BIOS settings?
Go to Integrated Peripherals, On-chip IDE Configuration
ATA Configuration: P-ATA + S-ATA
S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes

oh dudes! thanks for that help! i thought i checked in there to see if it was set. hmm...must've never seen that setting before in my bios. that's probably why i missed it. anyway, thanks so much for the help! much appreciated! when i learn a lot more i'll try to come back and help others! or if i have more problems i'll post it! haha.
