i turned on my computer yesterday, and windows did not load. It came to the boot menu and i selected "last good known configuration". Windows was about to load but then it crashed. I tried to reformat my computer, but when I put in the windows xp cd, it says "NO BOOTABLE MEDIA"( or something related to that). I tried the windows xp CD on my other computer and it worked. If the cd-rw drive on my computer is dead, it is a sudden death because it was working fine the day before. I need help ASAP!!!

Is it the same machine that suffered heat problems running without a fan (aka without active cooling)?

yes, it is the same machine. but i changed the cpu cooler a while back, and i switched back over to the intel pentium MMX processor (which runs very cool) 4 weeks before it died.
