I want to flash my bios on my old mainboard which is a jetway j-542b so i got the util awardflash and the bin file but i read the faq @ jetway.com and it says this.

If your BIOS is earlier that Aug/1998.You can only update the BIOS: The mother board must using either "Winbond" or "SST" EPROM (Underneath of Award label. In order to avoid crash EPROM chip, you must check it before you update the BIOS)

Problem is i removed the award label from the bios chip and all it says is ASD is it safe to flash it or will i trash the board.

TIA.

The ASD is supposedly Winbond-compatible, but there have been numerous problems with ASD's. Perhaps Jetway is the only mobo manufacturer to somewhat admit that ASD's do get corrupted... who knows?

I'd wait for a second opinion/reply.

I just installed a 60 GB HD successfully to my old system with Award 4.51PG BIOS. Go to IBM's Website to download a utility software called Disk Manager 2000. It will let you install HD drive>32GB into a system with old BIOS.
