Planning to install a Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM internal EIDE.
Will be running on Mandrake Linux 8.2.

Latest BIOS from Mtech is at ftp://www.mtiusa.com/driver/r528hu.bin

Call me chicken s---, but I haven't flashed, or tried to install the HDD or OS yet. I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before I start. From reading the board, I'm assuming I'll need a patch. Is that correct?

This latest release, being from March 97, does surely not support anything beyond 8GB. No go for Win9x and ME.

As you are going to install Linux, the situation is different.
The Bios opnly needs to provide support for booting and the boot partition
"/boot". 100MB is more than enough here.

The rest will be useable, once the kernel is active.

Bye
