I've searched in the Lucky Star web page but I can't find the correct update. My Hard disk is a 40Gb Seagate ST340016A.

That BIOS ID looks like it could be Lucky Star 6P2BX, for which there does not appear to be a BIOS available from the main Lucky Star site. The Russian Lucky Star site seems to have pulled all support.

Can you confirm the board type and see if there is a PCB version number printed on the board ?

We may be able to fix your BIOS to support your 40Gb drive if you can save it to a file using AWDFLASH or Uniflash.

I can't find any PCB printed in the board. Where should I look? How it seems?

Anyway, I have the bios you asked for. How can I sent to you?

I don't know how/whether Lucky Star print it on the board. Some makers put a number e.g. "V1.0", "V3.1" and maybe the board type e.g. "6P2BX", "AB-PH5".

Zip and email it to me at the email address in my profile :)

That 9KA6-1.zip BIOS seems to have the right BIOS ID when looked at with MODBIN, so it could work.

I've used a tool written by Rainbow to patch both to support hard discs up to 128Gb. The 9ka5 file is your old BIOS patched, the 9ka6 is the one you found at www.hktk.com

One minor disadvantage is that the BIOS may not show "Mb" or "Gb" in some displays, I don't remember which. With my IBM 40 Gb hard disc the summary pane as the PC starts to boot shows "41117 Mb" instead of "40 Gb". I can live with that.

For one or two BIOSes the patch utility did not fix the problem, but usually it does. Remember, as always, you flash at your own risk. Good luck ! let us know what happened. I will copy this to Wim's for information.

Sorry for disturbing you again, but I still can get working my HD. Before installing the patch I could run the Seagate DiskWizard tool for partitioning and formating the HD but now everytime I try to execute, an error raise up. I've tryed also with other tool for partitioning the HD (PartitionMagic 7.0) and I also get errors. It is a bios upgrade related problem or I should check for another reasons?

Hi alberto
Occasionally the BIOS patch does not work completely, but also there can be problems between the patch and any disk management/overlay software which was already in use.
When you ran Disk Wizard before, did it see the whole drive ?
Is Disk Manager a separate tool, and if so did you use it ?

When I used DiskWizard before it was with the HD disconected from the bios start-up (otherwise the board hang-up itself) but yes, it saw the complete size of the HD.

Disk Wizard is a tool from the Seagate webpage:

Seagate used to supply Ontrack Disk Manager to get around BIOS compatibility prpblems - I think I had version 4.3.

How did you get the Disk Wizard to see the drive ? Did you set the CMOS setting to "none" and boot from diskette ?

[update]Thanks for the link. Did you install the "Dynamic Disk Overlay" (DDO) software ? If so, see if you can uninstall it from the maintenance menu.

I have also downloaded the lastest version of the Ontrack Disk Manager (the 9.3 I think) and soen't work. Anyway, I think it has been deprecated with the DiskWizard soft.

For making Disk Wizard seen the drive I did exactly as you say. Has that any problem?

I'm gonna try to uninstall the DDO. Let's see what happen :?:

This is are my BIOS
Motherboard is Lucky Star

What I know my BIOS is 1MB which means(I think) that I can get
max. 64GB on my harddisk(IBM 80GB)

I have now 32GB

Is that true that you must clear CMOS before uprade BIOS?
Is that possible to flash a new BIOS so I can have up to 128GB?
What BIOS file do I need?

Welcome Peter
You do not always have to clear CMOS, it depends what changes were made to the BIOS. For example, if we patch your current BIOS you would not have to clear CMOS. If you went to a different version, especially one which added any other features to the set-up menu, you should clear CMOS. You can note your present settings first.....

I will send you the same "9KA5" BIOS I sent Alberto. He has not told me whether he has sorted out the Dynamic Disc Overlay business, so I cannot confirm that it works 100%.

Thank you Nick.

It works fine with your BIOS(9KA5) you sent to me.
I have to use "uniflash".
Awdflash didn't work, after backing up my old BIOS it
hangs and it says "source file not found".

But "uniflash" works great.
