Set up BIOS to use boot loader installed on fixed media

On various Windows operating systems, how do I set up BIOS (or controller) to use only a boot loader installed on fixed media?

By disabling everything else on the bootable devices list in the bios. All current bioses allow for this method. If for limiting the OS for booting only from fixed media, that is not an option as it would take away the possibility to recover the OS from removable media. This is by design.
