(Soupy- main board URL is wrong)

Taiwan MyComp TMC AI5TT - latest on site is AI5TT-Q6D-0625 (Winbond 977)

will check for large disc support... none. I'll email you a patched version if you'd like to try.

There's a well-known set of bugs in the Award 4.50- 4.51 BIOSes which will do any or all of the following:
- hang when auto-detecting drives bigger than 32 Gb
- fall over when trying to display the capacity of drives bigger than 32 Gb
- fail to allow the use of drives bigger than 32 Gb.

People have looked into the reasons for this and come up with rules for modifying the BIOS. Rainbow, a moderator on this site, has produced a utility used by the Associates and Moderators on this site to patch BIOSes for people to try out on a non-commercial basis. I've patched this BIOS and could email it to you. In fact, I tried but it said your yahoo address wasn't recognised.

hmm, my yahoo is ok.

from yahoo "You can receive messages up to 3MB and send messages up to 1.5MB in your Yahoo! Mail account. If you would like to send or receive larger files, check out Yahoo! Briefcase at: "

so if the file is bigger than 3mb it wont go. but i guess its not

come on spam, i dare you hehehehe.

sorry forall the questions. i was gonna ask this earlier, but have had "cmos checksum errors"

is it possible to find out how large harddisk my original bios detects
"Award ID-String : 02/10/98-i430TX,W83977AF-2A59IM2CC-00"

i think its 8,4 gigs or something
, maybe lower.

(pentium2 200mmx) ---------> my work pc

im a little hesitant to beggining flashing my bios, so ive heard that you can buy a card to put in the pc, and controll the harddrive through that, instead og the bios. have anyone tried that"

An EIDE controller card, yes. I'm running one on my box to support ATA-133. Works great.

i read this page:

http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/bioslim.htm

and used the extbios.exe.

it said int 13 h extensions version 2.1 detected

and enhanced disk drive support
and Extended disk access

so acording to that, i can use a 10 gb disk?

or am i just being stupid?

are there anymore barriers beyond 8gb, like 20gb?

i havent tried the flash nicks sent. i still have a week to make up my mind. so im just reviewing my options.

i know its just a p2 200mmx, so its no big deal if it burns.
but with the latest of equiptment at the workplace, i dont need a testosteron packed pc at home.

thanks

The next barriers are the 32 Gb detection and 64 Gb display bugs in Award 4.51 which are fixed in the patched BIOS I sent. Apart from that, Int 13h extensions should work up to 128 Gb. If you are planning to add 10Gb you should be OK.

How to debug that three bugs?

thanks

Well, I am not so sure that the third really exists, it's just that we've found one or two people have trouble even when the other two are fixed. But that could be them :)

If you are interested in the technical details, I suggest you search for posts by "biosman", "janpopan" and "rainbow". The moderators on this site use a utility produced by Rainbow. There is also a utility produced by someone called "starter" if you search the web.
