I am havig touble flashing my bois.

Motherboard = AB-BM6 by Abit
Bois = Award modular BIOS v4.51PG
(current bios is = 2a69ka1lc-mq

I went to Abits website at (http://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/e ... =BM6&#Bios ) and downloaded the BIOS update for larger drive compatability. I booted my system with a basic DOS disk and then ran the executable for the bios update. When I reboot I still have the same BIOS installed as before.

Current BIOS = bm6mq.exe
Attempted Flash BIOS= bm6pq.exe

What am I missing? Should my BOIS update be coming from ABIT or form AWARD?

If you did only what you said you now have two "bm6pq" files on your disc. One is the executable you downloaded, a self-extracting archive, the other is a .bin file which was just extracted from it. You need to get the Award BIOS flasher executable and follow the instructions closely. Take a look in the "Collected Wisdom" for a couple of links to step-by-step guides.

Any particular reason you didn't go for the "TZ" update which has some more bugs fixed ?

Nick,

I usually try to address the specific issue I'm having problems with. I guess I'm used to Microsoft spewing out fixes on a daily bases and I usually only install the items that pertain to my environment.

I have a few users who like to install every fix as soon as they are offered and often it spells disaster. Often I end up fixing or reinstalling their system configuration.

I would guess that the TZ bios update you mention has been out in the filed for a long while so it is probably stable. My problem with this specific system was large disk recognition and the PQ update was the solution.

Maybe I'm just a little paranoid? :)

Thanks again for your tip as I haven’t had to Flash a system in years and I was truly at a stand still. Everything is working great now!
