You have the ALi I/O controller?

I suppose TM-586IV2A is printed on the motherboard or manual, right?

What's your complete BIOS ID string and message?

I found this:
08/01/97-i430VX-2A59GTJBC-00
TM586-IV2 Ver:1.4

Versions 1.X used the ALi controller.
Versions 3.X used another one.

Perhaps they printed (not in BIOS) the additional "A" to specify the ALi I/O controller.

Note: (for Rainbow): that's one of the earliest AWARD BIOSes I've seen with support for 32GB HDDs.

Some early BIOSes (mainly for i430FX and i430VX) patch successfully but don't work. They show full HDD capacity both in SETUP and in configuration table but in fact they don't support INT13 extensions so the HDD will be seen by OS as 8.4GB. :( I've seen many of them (and tested on my MS-5120 board).

Please tell us what you see on the very same page you got your BIOS ID string from. The BIOS message is further up. Please look for it, for your sake, before sending you the BIOS (unpatched).

BTW, what do you need the update for?

The only thing that i can find using BIOS Agent is: UMC 8669A
and if i use Bios Wizard i get UMC/ITE 8669

I need an update because i want to reinstall the machine and actually it doesn't support cd rom boot option and also it doesn't support big hard disk like a 40 Gb

Thanx for the Help

Not using BIOS Agent; simply at the top of memory count page, when you boot, like this:

although for the Totem board it will probably not have the date code.
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

Wait, perhaps he has answered the question: ALi vs. UMC I/O.

Now I know the suggested BIOS may be wrong. I'll look for the UMC version of the update.

But in the meantime, please verify that BIOS Agent didn't mess up. Please physically verify you have a UMC super I/O controller chip. It's a small black rectangular chip, usually behind your PCI slots, a few inches under the keyboard connector.

The TOTEM website is up again:
http://www.totem.com.tw/a7-driver-BIOS.htm

Now, once you check the BIOS message, you'll know if you need the V1.x or V3.x BIOS.
