new computer need help setting it up

My friend won a computer from work and i went over there to put windows xp onto it because his work said nothing will be on it so i turned on the computer and it said something about operating system so my friend asked his friend at work about it and wrote on a piece of paper in bios and then put windows xp into cd drive and install i dunt get it??

he probably meant you had to get into the bios and change the bootorder

depending on the comp you need to hit a key at startup to enter the bios (most common is the del key) and look for the bootorder sequence - set it so that the cdrom is first

after this you can boot from a (genuine )xp cd & installation will begin
