Hello,
i'm working as oem manufacturer of computer systems.
We want to add special system information to our assembled systems in the bios.
Most times we use ASUS boards, and i allready saw some systems with this information in,
and our prgrammer did a tool to read these strings.
But we cant find any kind of onformation how to write these strings to the bios during the flashing process.
ASUS itself has no information about this, and the mail/hotline support is disinformed about this topic.
Thanks in advance

AFAIK, you have to run a DMI tool and copy the information over from a previously saved DMI file.

I think it depends if the BIOS is AWARD or AMI. Does the ASUS site have a DMI tool available?

Search for DMICFG...look for a recent version that is compatible with your BIOS.

Well, i could enter the DMI in DOS mode, read all values and also assign new to them,
but then the tool couldnt write it, it gave me an error about not possible to write...
But i can export a DMI file, is it possoble to add such a file during a normal flash process?

Hi.
Which DMI modification utility did you use?
Which Asus mainboard do you have?
Which BIOS does the mainboard have?

Well, i used DMICFG.exe for this, which can be found here:
http://www.bios-info.de/_progs/dmicfg.zip
For the testing we used several older ASUS boards, eg. A7V133 and such,
which all have an Award BIOS.
But we want to use it a the newer boards for real, like A8N-E and such.
I know that there are also some with AMI BIOS, but i guess there are other tools for that.
But maybe dmicfg.exe works there too?
Thanks

Hi.
Did not you already tried to use tools from the the BNOBTC ?
Inside the BNOBTC there are many tools to modify the DMI in
Asus - Award BIOS, ... , Phoenix AwardBIOS and AMIBIOS mainboards.
e.g.:
BNOBTC 5 archive->
+ Asus\dmicfg\dmicfg16
+ American_Megatrends_Inc\DMIEdit\dmi_editor_v20037
+ ...

I too am having trouble writing DMI strings on my Asus motherboard. It's a P5A with Award BIOS.
Lots of tools will read the DMI info but none can write. I am running the Beta v.1011 5 BIOS because it supports large HDDs.
I am comfortable with hex editing, but cannot find any strings in the .awd file, presumably because it;s compressed. I have also opened the binaries using the Award BIOS Editor from Sourceforge but there is no DMI info in there.
Can anyone advise? Can I edit the binaries?
Cheers, Rob
